Since early 2008, Liphook Village Surgery has sought to involve its patients in developing its
services to suit the needs and wishes of its patients as well as providing a forum for discussion
about issues facing the surgery. This patient led voluntary group is called the Patient Participation
Group (PPG) and it has met approximately every 6 weeks since its inception in 2008.
Since 2011, we have tried to increase the representativeness of our volunteers and reach out to all groups of patients. We created a Virtual PPG which is kept informed of discussions and developments via email rather than attending meetings at the surgery. They receive copies of any minutes and documentation along with instructions on how to comment if they wish to raise anything.
PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP (PPG)
The PPG has been instrumental in establishing a Carers Group. A team of volunteers, who have
often been carers themselves, hold an informal gathering with coffee twice a month. They meet,
talk to and listen to others who are carers for loved ones but whom, in turn, are in need of a bit
of support. The volunteers are able to share the experiences of others and to help them face the
challenges being a carer can present or to signpost them to appropriate support organisations.
The Carers Group meet on the first Wednesday of the month at the Millennium Centre 10 am to 12 noon.
Each year the PPG conduct a survey of our patients looking at the quality of services provided and also to seek direction on issues and topics that patients wish the PPG to raise and work on during the year ahead. The results from this survey are published and an annual report by the PPG is then produced outlining what they will be working on for the next year.
